Khamalathu Widows Project Sends Their Thanks to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of America
Jim McDowell

Children of the Nations Malawi has been serving children in the village of Mgwayi, just outside the capital city of Lilongwe, for over 20 years. In this village alone, there are over 300 children having their holistic needs met through the provision of education, food, social care, as well as evangelism and discipleship programs. We do this so they know the love of God and follow the way of our Saviour. Our program shows Christ's love in action, and we are so thankful for your support in this kingdom building work.

A key part of this work has been supporting the widow's group in the village. As like many
African countries, there is no safety net for women who lose their partner and main
breadwinner in the family. Literacy rates in Malawi are very low, especially among women,
which can lead to many being taken advantage of.

Thanks to your support, many women in the village are part of a microfinance project which
supports them to make goods which are sold at local market and are distributed to our
Children of the Nations families. Mosquito nets are a key part of their business model. They
are able to support their own families and can be proud of the work they are doing. All the
women are looking after children, sometimes up to 5 children. Some of whom they have
adopted, so your impact goes even further! Over 100 children are blessed through your
support, but it goes even wider than this.
Malaria is a deadly disease which is carried by mosquitos. It is very prevalent in Malawi, and
often hospitals struggle to cope with the number of cases. Thousands of people still die every
year from this disease, and thousands more require hospital treatment to survive.
This is why your support for malaria nets is so important as they vastly reduce the chances of
a person contracting this terrible disease. Your support is saving lives.
Last year alone the Khamalathu widows group produced over 400 mosquito nets, nets which
potentially saved the lives of hundreds of children, thanks to your support.
As you can see, your support has gone a long way. It is almost impossible to measure the
impact as we see the ripple effect that it is having. You have blessed a group of widows who
have the security of a personal business, who in turn are blessing their own children through
the money they make. But they are also blessing so many children, far and wide, to sleep
safely in their beds at night. They are blessing their communities by being salt and light in
desperate situations.
This is the work of the kingdom of God, and we are so thankful to you for your support. You
have saved the lives of many through your generosity.
