Our Vision

Raising children who transform nations®

Children of the Nations® (COTN®) is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to raising children out of poverty and hopelessness so they can become leaders who transform their nations. The organization currently serves in Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, providing care to orphaned and destitute children.

INITIATIVE: PRIMARY AND NURSERY SCHOOL PATHWAYS

Left: The current primary and nursery school paths. Right: The paved paths at the secondary school.

School should be a safe place for children to run and play, but this is not the case for many children in Sierra Leone.

Our primary and nursery school (elementary and preschool, respectively) buildings are only connected by dirt paths that get muddy when it rains and destroyed by erosion. Without paved paths or a drain to combat erosion, the uneven ground becomes a tripping hazard and is not accessible for children with disabilities.

With your help, we want to make the schools safer, more accessible environments by adding paved paths and creating an outdoor drainage system to fight erosion.

Impact Story

Massah came to COTN when she was nine years old. She had lost her parents, and her older sister had struggled to take care of her. "[Before COTN], my life was meaningless," she says. But with the help of her sponsors and generous people like you, she was given food, a loving home, and an education.

Massah thrived in school. From earning the second-highest scores in her second-grade class to being named the top female applicant for the university program a decade later, she was consistently one of the top students in her class. She is now in college, studying communications so she can go into public relations.

Massah says it best: "If you support education in Sierra Leone, your money will not go in vain. Nations are going to be transformed."

You can help improve the primary and nursery schools so that more children like Massah can excel and grow up to change Sierra Leone.

Why Is This Project Needed?

The paths between the school buildings are unpaved, which can be dangerous for children running on the school grounds.

The school grounds are eroded from the rain.

The primary and nursery schools are not accessible for children in wheelchairs.

Strategy

Build pathways and ramps outside the primary and nursery schools. Dig a drainage system to eliminate water erosion.

Outcomes

A safer environment for the 400 students attending these schools.

The two schools will be accessible to children with disabilities.

The school grounds will be better maintained and will not be damaged by erosion.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a total investment of $7,675 to complete this project. Will you help make the primary and nursery schools safe, accessible places for children to learn?
